I grew up in San Francisco and attended the SF Art Institute. After living in the woods in Fairfax, CA, raising my two children, I moved to San Rafael, CA, in the marsh under the geese flyway. For the last 7 years I have taken my trailer "Airstream Named Desire" around the West gathering inspiration. Two months ago I traded in my small Airstream for a larger one. This one is named Furthermore.
My daughter, Megan, and I recently drove to Marfa, Texas, on an art discovery road trip with the Airstream. It was an amazing journey. Salvation Mountain near The Salton Sea, Eliphante in Arizona, The Lightening Fields in New Mexico and The La Posada Hotel in Winslow, AZ, were just some of the art sites we visited. A natural spring near Marfa called Balmorhea, inspired me to use the turquoise blue in my latest work.
My paintings have been described as "Maxfield Parrish meets the Hobbit while traveling with a camper in the Pirates of the Caribbean". All of my images come from my imagination, however they are all based on places and things I've seen.
The quick drying time of acrylic paint lets me experiment a lot. If something isn't quite right I wait 10 minutes and then I paint over the offending area. Lots of fun, not too much worrying..
